"After graduating, I pursued the ambition to perform R&D in an industrial environment. Luckily I had the opportunity to start as Marie Curie fellow at LMS, an engineering innovation company in Leuven (Belgium). During my two-year Marie Curie fellowship, I worked as research engineer on the industrial challenge to model and simulate the noise and vibration behaviour of cars, while enrolling in a PhD programme at nearby university KU Leuven. I experienced that Marie Curie really allows combining the best of both worlds: with the pace and priority set by the industry environment, and the depth and scientific level ensured by the academic supervision. As a result, the Marie Curie programme remains important for me also in my current function as R&D project manager at LMS. Because of the relevant technology topics addressed and the nature of consortia that always combine industry and academia, the Marie Curie programme is instrumental to build bridges between academia and industry, thanks to the researchers that are hired on the projects and that take up an industrial R&D challenge with academic supervision".
