Automatic Frequency Response Function Calculation in a Multi-Body Solver and its Application for Road Load Prediction for Fatigue Analysis on Passenger Vehicles

ABSTRACT: Today the time-to-market in the automotive industry is decreasing whereas the quest for improvements of conflicting performance criteria (static and dynamic behavior, crashworthiness, NVH, etc.) is ever increasing. New efficient Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools are requested by the designer to evaluate the functionality and the quality of different design ideas, already in the early stages of conceptual design, where geometrical information is not yet fully available, conventional software packages are not directly applicable or the calculations are time-consuming. The present work proposes a methodology for the concept design of beam-like structures, joints and panels in a vehicle FE model, with the aim of enabling accurate NVH simulations of the Body in White (BIW) already in the initial phases of the vehicle design process.
